Orb Faithful! The courses are all open for play and the PGA season is in full swing. We have a big two weeks coming up with the Wells Fargo and PGA Championships. With Scottie taking a quick break from completely dominating everyone, the top of the leaderboard will see someone else on top for a change. Lots of ideas to think about with him vacating the throne but lets take a look back at how we did at the Masters before we move on to this week.
What we got right:
If you only read the first name, Scottie Scheffler, you got the winner. He’s so damn hot right now it's hard to pick anyone else to win when he's in the field.
We called Xander to Top-20, he was solo 8th.
Patrick Reed, with the juicy odds, was a stroke off Top-10 and finished at T12.
Bryson Dechambeau had a great start, wasn’t able to keep it up, but still rounded out an impressive T6.
What we got wrong:
Wyndham Clark, the rookie to watch, did not have too much fun. He missed the cut by a stroke and was the only guy we highlighted to get the boot.
Brooks Koepka did not have his best and was way down the final board at T45.
Compared to other tournaments we see year to year, the Masters has a predictable way of elevating the best players and paying for experience and local knowledge. Scottie’s performance was undeniable, firing off a -4 final round, and winning comfortably by 4 strokes.
Knowing we don’t get to pick the money printer this week, let's take a look at the players I’ll be looking for at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
Max Homa (+2000) - While he took T8 last year, he has won here twice in (2019 & 2021) in 6 starts. He also went 4-0-0 in his matches at the Presidents Cup held there in 2022. He didn't have a great showing in his last event, T55 at the RBC Heritage, but that shouldn't detur you from giving him a long look at a course he has dominated throughout his career.
Wyndham Clark (+1400) - He had a great bounce back week after the MC at the Masters. T3 at the RBC Heritage showed he still has his swing and will have a great chance to defend his 2023 win at Quail Hollow. He is 6th in True Strokes Gained over his last 20 rounds and has finished in the Top 3 in 3 of his last 5 starts. Oh, and he won by 4 strokes at -19 here last year.
Justin Thomas (+2500) - Thomas has had a rough stretch of play since Mid-February. He has been searching for his swing and seemed to find it for a T5 at the RBC. For history, he won the PGA Championship here in 2017, took T14 in 2023, has never finished outside the Top 30 in 5 starts, and also went 4-0-0 in Presidents Cup play. He’s been talking up his new driver and will need it if he's going to get low enough to take a run at the championship.
As I watch this weekend, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the contenders for next week’s PGA Championship at Valhalla. Having a big money “designated event” leading into a Major gives everyone a great chance to evaluate current form and their ability to take on the challenging conditions we expect to see in Louisville, KY. One last tip, Mother’s Day is Sunday! Get up early and pay your dues before you settle for the final round.
If you have a favorite guy you want to hear more about, drop them in the comments and I will make sure to get you some notes on them going into next week.

End of an Era: All Good Things Must Come to an End by Mickey Swish
“I’ve waited a good amount of time to let the feeling sink in before I write about it, but the strange sting feels the same. For the first time in 20 years, the National Basketball Association doesn’t have one of the 3 biggest superstars of this era in the second round of its playoffs. LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry all have been eliminated in either a play-in game or round one…”
Masters 1000 - Italian Open Preview: Is Novak a Sitting Duck? by Andy Diamonds
“Moving onto the Italian open, we see the return of Novak Djokovic. He's back folks and is the opening favorite as of today to be the last man standing. I’ll be honest I don’t know how this is going to unfold for Novak. We really haven’t seen him play at all this year despite an early exit in Indian Wells and a semi final loss in Monte Carlo. Handicapping tennis in general is difficult but even more difficult when you take a ton of time off and are now stepping onto the clay since Monte Carlo…”
