Orb Faithful,
Welcome back to the Orb ATP section of the blog!
Before we dive into the round of 16 at the US Open, I want to share some updates on what’s been happening behind the scenes during the offseason. It’s been a busy and exciting time for us. Orb Wizard and I have been diligently working to lay the foundation for what we hope will be our most successful season yet. The Orb has seen significant growth, with new content writers joining our team and expanded coverage now reaching the NBA, ATP, and PGA. We’ve also made a significant leap forward by becoming an incorporated company, tackling the challenges that come with solidifying a startup.
Now, we have a tremendous opportunity to elevate the company to new heights, but we can’t do it alone. We need you—our readers—to be the driving force behind our success, helping us rise to the next level among startups. Your support, especially through word of mouth, is invaluable.

From a branding and creative perspective, you may notice some subtle changes in our graphics this season. My goal is to make slight adjustments that build on the consistency we've already established while keeping our brand fresh and impactful. As I continue to grow as a designer, I’m discovering new ways to showcase our brand to the world. While this is based in trying to find new Marketing strategies that lead to demographic growth we are also passionate about crafting a social narrative that reflects who we are as a company and the impact we aim to achieve.
Central to this narrative is our commitment to transparency. We want our readers to understand what it looks like behind the scenes—the decisions we make and the thought process behind them. It’s this transparency that underscores our dedication to delivering a high-quality product throughout the NFL season, from start to finish. Our hope is that transparency will also be a crucial foothold with our users when it comes to generating more revenue. If we show people how much we care and are transparent about that - the right people will continue to support our growth financially and through narrative.
With my background in user experience design, another key aspect I focus on is your experience as a reader. What subconscious emotions do you feel when you interact with our platform? Is it calming? Engaging? Does it invite you to take a break from your day and dive into a blog post by one of our talented writers? Do you feel compelled to share our content with a friend? These are the questions I strive to answer and the experiences I aim to enhance throughout the season. I often feel the need to prove that design is not just important but also financially impactful. As we grow, I hope to leave a lasting mark on how design is perceived and valued in a professional setting. Effective branding and design are more than just aesthetics; they are about influencing human behavior and inspiring action. As Creative Director, I continue to ask myself: Can I inspire action through the design choices I make? Time will tell.
And now, let's talk tennis...
The last time I blogged about the ATP was during my Wimbledon preview, and, well, my predictions didn’t exactly pan out. I confidently picked Jannik Sinner as the 2024 champion, only to be proven wrong when Carlos Alcaraz claimed the title. But now, with the US Open underway, we’ve reached the stage of the tournament where things really start to matter.
As I write this, did I expect both Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz to lose in the third round? Absolutely not. That's precisely why I held off on writing until the Round of 16. With Sinner and Zverev being the last top 4 seeds remaining, we're in for some unexpected names in the quarterfinals. While I follow tennis closely and know these players, it's rare to see some of them on such a big stage.
Among all the surprises, I feel particularly vindicated about Alexei Popyrin. This Aussie is something special. I can’t quite remember how I first described him when I blogged about him, but he’s had an incredible few months. Winning his first Masters 1000 event in Montreal out of nowhere, and now taking down Novak in four sets—that’s wild. I’m hoping he makes it to the semifinals and establishes himself as a top 15 player.
Here’s who I’ve been keeping an eye on as we head into the Round of 16:
Alexander Zverev (+380)
Zverev has been in remarkable form over the past few months, overcoming various challenges that have contributed to his historic season. This US Open could be one of his best chances to secure a Grand Slam title, especially without having to face Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic. After reaching the finals at the French Open, only to be defeated by Alcaraz, Zverev knows how crucial it is to seize this opportunity. The US Open at this stage feels like playoff football—it's all about who’s the healthiest. With Jannik Sinner still nursing a hip issue, even though he's been playing well, the deeper he goes into five-set matches, the more likely it is that something could go wrong.
Daniil Medvedev (+450)
A true professional and master of his craft, Medvedev has a real shot at securing his second US Open title now that the competition has thinned out. However, his serving could be his Achilles' heel. If he struggles with his serve, it opens the door for his opponents to capitalize. First-serve percentages and cashing in on free-point aces will be crucial. In Grand Slams, holding serve is non-negotiable; getting broken more than once in a set is a major red flag.
Tommy Paul (+4500)
Is there an upset brewing? Maybe not, but if Tommy can get past Sinner, who knows what could happen. I’d love to see an American in the final, especially in New York, a venue that deserves an American center stage. It would be great to get the crowd hyped and show some homegrown talent.
Alexei Popyrin (+1700) - Why not? His racquet is red hot, and there’s nothing else to say.
