Orb Faithful,
Welcome back to the ATP section of the blog, hosted by yours truly, Andy Tenniscourts—Senior ATP Reporter for Orb Analytics Limited. Man, it would be a dream to say that at an ATP press conference one day. Maybe I’ll throw it up on my manifestation board and write it down 15 times in my journal for good measure. I’d love to see more folks coming here to talk tennis with me.
Maybe it’s time I dust off the mic and get back into the podcasting game, a little ATP + NFL, and even do a “real life…” mailbag. Answering life’s hardest questions from the Orb Faithful. I do miss the game, and that itch really started again after listening to our company’s new NBA podcast, Dishing and Swishing, hosted by
+ and produced by .These lads have a serious vibe and a deep understanding of the NBA that you have to hear for yourself. Audio clips are coming to our social pages soon, and that’s all the promo they’ll need. Once the Orb Faithful get a bite, it’ll turn into a weekly must-listen. And now, onto the tennis…
Boy oh boy, do we have a doozy on our hands. Jannik Sinner, the current world No. 1, is squaring off against the former No. 1, Novak Djokovic, at the Shanghai Masters 1000. Buckle up, folks—this one’s going to be interesting. I’m not going to sugarcoat it— I don’t see a world that Novak wins this final. He just can’t compete with Jannik in terms of court coverage.
If the semifinal matches told us anything, it’s that Novak’s knee is a serious problem. Yes, he’s got the edge when it comes to tennis IQ, but that only goes so far when Jannik can cover the entire court for three long sets, if needed. My head says Jannik takes this in straight sets, but my heart is whispering that Novak might sneak a set somehow. If it happens, it’ll be the opening set—no stat to back this up, just vibes. Every time I’ve seen Jannik drop a set, it’s in the first. Then he comes back to dominate the second and clinch the third in a tiebreaker. That’s the script I’m sticking with, assuming Novak can pull something special out of his bleeeep. Here are my exact picks for this Masters 1000 Final:
