Orb Faithful,
Happy Saturday! As we dive into NFL Week 11, it's time for another round of our beloved "Buy or Sell" segment. You know the deal: What did we love this week? What let us down? And what should we be buying or selling stock in? The options are always plentiful! This week brought a mix of experiences that left a lasting impression, and I’m ready to break them down.
To start, I recently returned from two weeks in Argentina celebrating my father’s 60th birthday. The trip itself was fantastic—filled with friendship, cold beers, and plenty of grilled meats. Unfortunately, the journey there and back was nothing short of a nightmare. So, I’m immediately SELLING all my stock in commercial airlines and air travel. I’m at a loss for how we reached this point, but it’s truly disheartening. I’m aware I’m far from the first to grumble about flying in 2024, yet this experience was a harsh reminder of how terrible it can be. For what amounts to the cost of a month’s rent, you’re essentially paying to be treated like livestock. The sheer number of people packed into one airplane is baffling. How is it acceptable to be sandwiched between coughing strangers for 10 hours just to reach your destination?
On top of the uncomfortable seating, my frustration reached new heights due to the logistical chaos we faced trying to return home. Just as we were about to check in for our flight from Argentina to Miami, we were informed at the counter that it had been canceled. The reason? The flight crew “didn’t get enough sleep in their hotel rooms due to a power outage.” Really? Aside from the “my dog ate my homework” line, does anyone have a worse excuse? Sure, the power went out, but didn’t they find another place to sleep? I was unaware that the entire crew needed a full 8 hours of rest to serve apple juice and pretzels. Moving on… The final straw was figuring out how to get home to Boston quickly. While my family managed seats on a flight from JFK, I was placed on standby. NOPE, that wasn’t going to work for me. Instead, I took a taxi from JFK to Penn Station and boarded the Amtrak back to Boston.
Mini-buy here: I loved every second of my train ride home. No long security lines, plenty of departure options, spacious seats, and free Wi-Fi onboard. If you need to travel within the States, seriously consider taking the train—it’s a game-changer!
Okay mini rant over and now onto the NFL…
My first buy for NFL Week 11 is the Arizona Cardinals! Who would’ve thought this team would be sitting at 6-4 heading into Week 11? Fresh off a dominant showing, the Cardinals steamrolled the New York Jets with a 31-6 victory, leaving me eager to sell any residual stock in the Jets’ slim playoff hopes. Arizona, led by Kyler Murray’s nearly flawless performance, took control early with a 21-6 halftime lead and never relented. Murray connected with Marvin Harrison Jr. for a touchdown and ran in two scores himself. Meanwhile, the Jets stumbled through the game—both literally and figuratively—behind Aaron Rodgers' struggles and a sputtering offense. It wasn’t just a game; it was a full-on reminder that the Jets’ playoff aspirations might be as far-fetched as air travel’s empty promises of comfort. BUY YOUR STOCK in Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals, who knows?
Finally, to close out my NFL Sell of the Week: Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears. Let me clarify—this sell isn’t about Caleb himself. Deep down, I believe he’s a talented, athletic young player with the potential for a standout NFL career. I say “potential” because the real issue lies with the Chicago Bears organization. This dysfunctional franchise continues to ignore its fanbase and the advice of the entire sports media landscape. How their head coach still has a job is beyond me. But more importantly, their top priority should have been building a legitimate offensive line and simplifying the playbook for Caleb’s rookie season. I genuinely feel for him—scrambling to make plays out of thin air week after week. The blame starts with the head coach and the lackluster offensive line. Sure, they brought in “talent” to surround him, but without protection in the pocket, it’s pointless; they might as well have hired my grandmother to play wide receiver. There’s still time for Caleb, but he either needs to find a way out of Chicago or demand serious coaching changes and more thoughtful draft decisions. It shouldn’t be that hard to call up Mike Vrabell and put together a deal that works for everyone involved. SELL YOUR STOCK IN THE CHICAGO BEARS.
