Orb Faithful,
Good morning, and happy Tuesday. Coming to you live from an undisclosed location in Rhode Island. Andy Fulltime folks! For those who don't know, this past year, I started working for my mother’s architecture business, where I do 3D rendering of high-end residential homes. Andy Blueprints, Andy Elevations, the young man is what I like to call a “Pseudo Architect" The takeaway is that God opens new doors/opportunities every day. Keeping your eyes and ears open to notice when a new opportunity is being presented to you is the key to growth. Not long ago, I was significantly down on myself and felt like a misfit who couldn't land a full-time job and support myself financially. Things can change on a dime, and anyone who's going through it right now just believe that you are on the path that was created for you. Walk in faith, not in sight. Challenge yourself to avoid comparing yourself to others and instead, appreciate all that you already have. With that being said…
ITS TIMMEEEEEEEE!!!
The French Open is here, folks, the second grand slam in the ATP/ITF tour calendar. We'll be in the qualifying rounds for the next couple of days, but listen, this is about to be a circus. Before I go into my insights and predictions for the French, I want to do a quick recap of the Masters 1000 Italian Open. I want the record to show that I called the disappointing performance of Novak Djokovic from a mile away. A sitting duck. If you haven’t read what I had to say, here's a link to my Italian Open preview. I'm going to continue to sell my stock in Novak. I don't think this guy has it right now. I could be a clown by the end of the French, but I don't see him turning it around. I could see him having an excellent grass court season and hard court performance at the end of the calendar season, but RIGHT NOW, anyone can get it on clay. In the same way, when March rolls around, and there's some 16-seed team that upsets the 1, clay is too unpredictable. Also it wouldn’t be fair to not mention the performance by Alexander Zverev. A now two time winner in Rome this young man has the hot hand rolling into the French. Unfortunately his off court allegations dims his light that has been incredibly bright this season. While I won’t speak on the details of what Zverev is accused of here a link to what we know as of right now.
Moving on, heres who caught my eye in Rome and who to look out for in Paris (via FanDuel Sportsbook) :
Jannik Sinner +460
To me you could go with either Jannik or Carlos in this spot, I’m going to take the Italian with the near 5:1 odds. Yes Carlitos could land himself in a RG final but to me sharp money is to take the better odds and get a bigger payout with the Italian. Sinner also already started the year with his AO grand slam win and after coming back from 2 sets down he is just an all around cold blooded killer in big time matches. Sinner’s “achilles heal” is the condition of his hip. If all is well and the time off in Rome paid dividends; he should have the upper hand compared to the rest of the field.
Holger Rune +3300
He’s been TOO quite this year. I mentioned this in the Italian Open preview but whenever he goes quiet in the back of my head its an alarm that this guy is going to go nuclear. One of the villains on tour Rune has this massive ego that makes him a incredibly difficult and determined competitor. I'll say this: NOW is the time for Rune and his team to instill in him the belief that this Roland Garros is wide open, and with the right mindset, Rune can string together an impressive campaign / take home the hardware himself.
Nicolas Jarry +6000
This guy is all class. With his first semi final appearance in his ATP Masters 1000 career Nicolas Jarry opened a lot of eyes in Rome. Hand on my heart no I don’t think he will win the tournament out right but someone to keep an eye on and I wouldn’t feel any pressure taking to cover game spreads.
Taylor Fritz +7000
The Americans. Taylor and my guy Tommy Paul showed out in Rome. It really brought a smile to my face to see the Americans playing well over seas. Taylor is comfortable on clay and another guy that could easily convince himself that he can make it to a final. Great showing in Madrid, great showing in Rome. Watch out for the Americans especially Taylor + Tommy.
We love you, we appreciate you, Orb Faithful to mars!
